Former President Muhammadu Buhari was laid to rest on Tuesday in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
His final journey began when his body arrived from London at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport. From there, it was escorted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other dignitaries, including leaders from Guinea-Bissau and the Niger Republic, as well as former President Yemi Osinbajo.
Crowds gathered along the roads and at his residence, quietly paying their last respects.
A simple lying-in-state was held at his home, followed by the funeral prayer, led by the Chief Imam of Daura. At 5:50 p.m., in the presence of family and close associates, he was laid to rest.
Military honours were rendered, including a 21-gun salute.
As the sun set over Daura, a chapter closed, not just for a man, but for the nation he once led.
A week of mourning and condolence visits will continue in the days ahead.
